Final Symposium Caring Neighborhoods

Over the past two years, VIVEL and the healthcare councils, in collaboration with an extensive network of partners, have been working on Caring Neighborhoods. A consortium was formed to guide these projects, of which VIVEL was part. VIVEL supported the projects with a digital communication platform, was a member of the consortium and stakeholder consultation, and kept its finger on the pulse on the ground. Moreover, also separate from these projects, we pull together with VVSG the 'learning network Care Sustainable Neighborhoods' where we connect professionals around this theme.

In this legislature, the Flemish Government committed itself to a Caring Neighborhoods policy. Central to a series of initiatives were 132 projects in Flanders and Brussels. In a Caring Neighborhood, 'smart connections' are central, between citizens, volunteers and professionals. A Caring Neighborhood is a warm, supportive neighborhood where people know and help each other. A good quality of life for everyone in their familiar surroundings is essential. Facilities and services are accessible to everyone.

Symposium

Informal care was also on the agenda: Karel Hermans, together with some Careful Neighborhoods project staff, brought the session "#dahadikeffenodig: informal care and caring neighborhoods," where they explained how informal caregivers can be supported in the projects.

During the lunch break, care and welfare professionals could then return to VIVEL's booth where a delegation of provincial contacts introduced them to VIVEL's offerings, and connected them to their own front-line zone.
